Neither is it a tribute to the Grand National winner nor was it inspired by a scene in Stanley Kubrick’s ‘The Shining’ (in which “redrum” is murder spelled backwards). This drink got its name for the simple facts that it is red - and has got rum in it.
½ part vanilla syrup
½ part freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 parts BACARDÍ 8 Años Rum
½ part sloe gin
2 oz redcurrants
Using a muddler (or bar spoon) roughly crush the redcurrants in the base of a cocktail shaker then pour in the other ingredients. Give it all a good, hard shake then fine strain the mixture into a chilled glass.
